Since 2007, the Optimist Club of Carlsbad, CA has sponsored an annual Christmas party for the Guide On families. Children are welcomed by Optimist members and Guide On staff to join in craft making, cookie decorating and indoor games while they await the arrival of Santa Claus.
When Santa’s elf announces that Santa is on his way, children are ushered outside in time to see Santa pull up in an antique fire truck! He calls each child by name and hands children gifts straight off of their Christmas lists. The joy in the room is uncontainable! Thanks to the Optimist Club of Carlsbad, this event is the most heartwarming event of the year!
Parents tell us that their kids talk about their Montana camp experience all year long. Highly qualified camp staff lead Guide On kids through ropes course challenges, rock climbing, river rafting, raft building, hiking, and horseback riding.
All activities incorporate esteem building, leadership or team work. The week-long camp is an experience that they will always remember and is best described by the pictures we have captured over the years.
2009 marked the first year Guide On was invited to join the Field of Dreams event in Williams, California, hosted by The California Deer Association and Stoneyford Ranch. Teenagers that meet the hunting age requirement are taken on a wild boar hunt in the early morning. Later in the day, all of the kids enjoy fishing, horseback riding and boating around Stoneyford’s largest pond.This is always a relaxing, but fun-filled weekend!
