Leadership CampsGuideOn is an organization where children who have been affected by the loss of a parent will be provided with leadership and skills training along with peers who have shared similar experiences. Professional staff will provide the leadership training, oversight, and support for children attending GuideOn Leadership Camps. While a permanent site has yet to be decided on, an interim camp has been located in the Pacific Northwest. Stay tuned for details! San Diego CampOur first camp in San Diego was a huge success. Dozens of volunteers, small businesses, and private donors funded the week long camp to make it a big blast for the children. The highlights were: A day at Sea World. Instruction on heroes in history through IMA Hero Teddy Bears. Lunch at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Dolphin interaction at SPAWAR. Sand castle contest in Mission Bay and an “Amazing Race” type competition. It was a truly fun filled week. Montana CampGuideOn has provided outdoor summer camps in Montana. During our week long stays we provided the following experiences and activities to include: fishing, hiking, archery, rope courses, rafting, repelling, horseback riding, and campfires. Monthly Mentorship ProgramGuideOn provides a monthly mentorship program for children who have lost a parent while serving in the United States military. At the request of the surviving spouse of the deceased veteran, GuideOn will match dependent children with approved adult mentors who are willing to become role models and provide guidance in the absence of a parent. If you are a surviving spouse of a deceased veteran or a community member interested in becoming a mentor to a child who has lost a parent, please contact James Clark or call (406) 203-4328. |
“The summer camps in Montana are a highlight of our year! My son is now 7 years old and has been attending the camps each year, for the past 4 years. This camp gives him the opportunity to learn outdoor activities including rafting, hiking, archery, shooting, ropes courses, rock climbing, zip lining, and so much more! The staff at the camp are amazing and are willing to wrestle and play with my son. I am so pleased that my son can participate in these activities, because these are exactly the types of activities that my husband enjoyed doing, but never had the opportunity to do with his son. As I watch Drew rock climb, it brings tears to my eyes, knowing that his daddy would have been so proud of him! I am so very grateful for this organization and camp!” Michele Davis |
